The upper portion of Lake Marion is known as Sparkleberry Swamp. It is filled with ash, tupelo, and bald cypress trees. A variety of wildlife abounds in this scenic area.

The Palmetto Trail passes through this area as well, so this is a convenient parking area for hikers.
